EMAIL SENDING SERVICE

Our customer is an e-commerce company possessing 13 online stores. Therefore, the number of letters sent was huge, as it included both service letters (i.e. to confirm sign up or order, etc.) and mail marketing campaigns (i.e. information newsletters, left carts reminders, etc.). All emails were sent via an internal SMTP server, it was overloaded and provided low email sending speed, resulting in frequent collapses and long queues of letters to be sent. So they asked IT Prosteer to provide the solution to solve this problem.

Solution

We thoroughly researched the architecture of the existing solution, flows of sending letters. Of course, we also identified and interviewed stakeholders to find out what other pains with the mailing system they had and what else they needed that the previous solution could not provide. We offered our customer to refuse from sending letters via internal server and use Amazon Simple Email Service instead. We developed a service called Mailer 2.0 which used AWS SES for sending emails and also provided integration with the customer’s systems and a convenient data collecting panel for the email marketing department.

Final result

The customer obtained a mailing service with the capacity of 200,000 letters per day and sending rate of 50 letters per second (180,000 letters per hour). Marketing specialists got the opportunity to track statistics in real-time, track the account health and take immediate measures aimed at decreasing bounce and complaints rate. We also started working on the next version of the product, featuring building different mail flows based on the type of users and their interaction and behavior.
